4 March 2024 Bangkok: TPBI Public Company Limited (TPBI) together with PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), Srithai Superware Public Company Limited (Srithai) and GC Company. Logistics Solutions Co., Ltd. (GCL) joins hands to announce success in developing innovations and using warehouse pallets made from recycled plastic pellets 'Post-Consumer Resin (PCR)' from used household plastic bags, which is the first time in Thailand. The pallets have already started to be used in the form of replacement pallets in automatically managed warehouses at GCL since the end of 2023.

Mr. Saroj Putthammawong, Chief Operating Officer of Value-Added Products, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) said, “From the initial idea together with TPBI and partners, we have continued to develop products along with sustainability through various activities throughout the past several years.  Today, GC has announced the success of developing pallets from recycled plastic pellets, PCR HDPE Compound, together with partners throughout the value chain, until they can be used for the first time in Thailand. It is considered one of the concrete achievements in management according to the circular economy concept. It also reflects that GC's HDPE plastic pellets are not only a low-carbon product that emits greenhouse gases 2.6 times less than the country's median greenhouse gas emissions, according to announcements from Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO). It also has strong properties that can be mixed with up to 30% PCR and produced into very strong products such as pallets that can be used in the automated warehouse at GCL.”

Ms. Chamaiporn Uerpairojkit, Chief Executive Officer of TPBI Public Company Limited (TPBI) said, “TPBI is an organization that focuses on conducting business along with sustainability according to the circular economy principle. We initiated WON Project in 2018 to provide knowledge to the public and collect used stretchable plastic waste from all over the country to be recycled and further research and development into many new products. From that point, it has led to the creation of innovative high quality PCR HDPE Compound plastic pellets to produce the pallets today. One pallet contains PCR ingredients equivalent to 3,353 used plastic bags and helps reduce carbon emissions by 188 KgCO2e/pallet, which is a reduction in carbon emissions compared to general plastic pallets by 146%. Thanks to all the partners who worked together to develop the project until it was successful and can be put into practice. TPBI will never stop developing PCR Compound innovations to be more environmentally friendly and of higher quality. We sincerely hope that today's success will be the starting point for expanding the use of pallets made from PCR plastic pellets in other industrial sectors besides GCL.”

Mr. Chaiwat Kulphattaravanich, Deputy Managing Director of Srithai Superware Public Company Limited (Srithai) said, “As a manufacturer and distributor of plastic products in various industries including household appliances made from melamine, Srithai has always had a policy of supporting the development of product innovation along with sustainability. Therefore, we are very pleased to be a part of the success of this project. As a manufacturer and injection molded of plastic pallets with innovation and international expertise, Srithai supports the testing, production, and injection molding of pallets from high quality PCR plastic pellets by using renewable energy in the production process to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions to maintain the environment sustainably as well as dealing with increasingly severe climate change. Based on this success, Srithai is ready to fully support the partners in the production of PCR pallets by using environmentally friendly plastic product production processes, renewable energy including innovations to reduce energy use, to support demand for green products that increase continuously both domestic and international.”

Ms. Panida Chinayone, Managing Director of GC Logistics Solutions Company Limited (GCL), said, “As a JV between GC and WHA, which is a complete logistics solution provider, we are pleased to be involved in the use testing and provide information as a user over the years. Today, we have finally been able to develop a high-quality PCR pallet that can be used. We have started using 500 PCR pallets as replacement pallets in our automated warehouse since the end of last year. These PCR pallets help reduce plastic waste in the country and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This clearly and concretely reflects logistics business management with innovation along with sustainability. GCL is ready to support innovations that contribute to sustainability and environmental protection together with our partners in the future.”
